U16 Tournament at Sikh Union Birmingham

Last weekend, Old Wulfs attended an U16 tournament hosted by Sikh Union Birmingham. It was a good day of hockey but the phrase ‘it's better to be lucky than good’ certainly describes the days play.
West Bromwich were our first opponents who we largely outplayed, forcing numerous shots and short corners, eventually scoring 2 through George and Callum. Dan was busier in goal than he should have been due to some slack marking, but playing well he managed to come out on top in three one-on-ones versus Shiv, eventually conceding one at the end but a 2-1 win was a positive start.
Against King Edwards Birmingham we played very well but had no luck whatsoever. We went 1-0 up through an individual goal by George, but then conceded from the pushback through a scrappy deflected goal. Again we found the target a lot but sadly the shots were down the middle allowing the keeper to make easy saves. We were then 2-1 down through another deflected shot, but pulled it back to 2-2 after a nice goal by Callum. We had numerous chances to go ahead but didn't and in the last second, Dan made a super point blank save but as he kicked the ball clear, it somehow bounced back into our goal off an attackers stick, much to his surprise. A very unlucky 3 2 defeat.
The final game was against Sikh temple aka Barford. Probably out least impressive performance (possibly a hangover from the previous game), as there was too much dribbling and not enough team play, however more goals for Callum and George made it a 2-2 draw.
In terms of individual performances, Callum played well all tournament as did guest player Noah. James Dunn settled in and contributed well and Ben Wall did some excellent work down the left. Sahib had no luck all day despite lots of good work, Paul and Jack also made positive contributions, with Dan having an excellent but unlucky day in goal.
King Edwards won the tournament and we finished level with West Bromwich.
Good effort by all and better luck next time!
