Old Wulfs support Wales Masters hockey
Posted by Nobody on 14 January 2017
On Sundays 20th November and 8th January, in conjunction with Wales Masters hockey, OW members have been involved in organising, playing in and umpiring games at Lilleshall National Sports Centre as part of the Wales Over 60 and Over 65 training for another busy year of international tournaments.
OW members Tony Orton, Glyn Thomas (also Wales O70 captain and top goalkeeper) and Mike Savage worked together to book pitches, changing facilities and post-match catering and organise two playing squads with players from eight local clubs so that on each day four full games could be played. OW members Glyn Thomas, Gordon Hodgkiss and Chris Nightingale umpired, and Bob Preece played with Wales O65 squad.
On 20th November the local teams won three of the four games; so on 8th January the Wales squads included more players, a coach….and they won three of the four games!
The games were all very competitive, but played in the excellent spirit that is typical of Masters hockey. Much needed post-match rest and recuperation was enjoyed at The Phez in Newport courtesy of Paul Quinn.
