The GNG Smethwick 2016 Hockey Tournament hosted by Barford Tigers was held today with Old Wulfs entering a U16 Team.
Once we made out way through the Saturday morning traffic we arrived with a squad of 11 for the tournament.
Dan in goal, Kai , Bhav , Sam Aldersley , George, Paul Johnson and Callum. Guests Euan, Kieron, Adam and Shiv from Old Hales and West Brom respectively.
Not sure if it was the early morning start or the settling down of a new team, we laboured in the first game against Barford, George and Sam missing numerous chances, we eventually lost 4-3 to the very last hit of the game.
Second game against Smetwick we woke up and won 4-1, Couple of nice goals from Shiv.
Kingswinford were dispatched six nil Callum putting one into the roof of the net, and Kai scoring off a short corner by dancing round the defence and keeper.
Next up were a combined Wolverhampton and Finchfield team containing three JRPC players who had smashed the previous teams they had played. George remembered how to play and the whole squad played a fantastic game, 1-0 up at half time, early in the second half we scored a break away goal off thier short corner. George then got sent off for the last five minutes. We reverted to some good old if In doubt whack it out. Dan made a vital one on one stick save to deny Wolves a goal. Final score 2-0.
During that and the next game Bhav demonstrated some very effective slow motion skills.
We beat a young Streetley side 7-1 with a highlight being Paul's deflected goal into the roof of the net from a Sam smash into the D.
The final game was watching Wolves v Barford and we needed Wolves to win by 2 or less goals they obliged by winning 3-2. Leaving us Wolves and Barford on 12 points each. We won on goal difference by 2 goals from Wolves.
Well done everyone.
