Old Wulfs U14's leading Development League

Posted by Nobody on 25 November 2015

Old Wulfs U14's travvelled to Lichfield last Sunday to play game 5 & 6 of their development league.

They are top of the league with 5 wins and 1 draw.

U14 player Callum Nightingale wrote this weekend’s match report.

We went into the first match against The 'mighty' Telford slightly worried with two of our senior players away. But never the less, we had a team talk which gave us a fighting spirit to start the first half.

With a solid 3-2-1 formation with our more experienced players lined up as the back three as we knew we had to have a solid back line against Telford, and the first half was played with some absolutely amazing hockey played out wide coming back into the circle to get some shots off but unfortunately we didn't succeed. Until we had a break in play right from the backline passing around up to Joe and just slipping past the keeper! A tremendous goal from a beginner just at the age of 10.

As the half time whistle blew we closed in and had a chat which led us into the second half with high hopes. We carried on and pushed through which put us two goals to nil, a fast paced sideline ball ran into the circle passed onto Paul who caught it on his reverse and tucked it into the bottom corner, another great team goal. Telford had some tremendous strikes on goal which were saved by Dan making a absolutely amazing double save which kept us in the game, hitting the ball down and diving into the corner to stop the ball from the player at the back post hitting the rebound in the corner but was cleared off of the back line, Well done Dan! A few stick tackles and feet later which gave away a few short corners, Telford finally broke us down and scored, a scrappy clearance and a strong hit into the bottom right. We kept on battling until they broke us down again and we left an unmarked man at the back post which we conceded off. The game finished 2-2 with scorers being Joe(1), Paul(1).

With Old Wulfs still unbeaten we lead into the next game versus Lichfield with our heads high following our 13-3 win last time we were faced against them. But not today, with our two lost players made a huge impact on the team, Lichfield had a much changed team with not one player the same as last time. Yet we battled a much stronger team and came out victorious. With great passing play from everyone which lead to the match ending Old Wulfrunians 5 Lichfield 0. Scorers included Noah(3), Paul(1) and Joe(1).

Great team effort throughout and great talking being heard from the team.

Thank you to Colin for Umpiring and Taxi service and Chris for managing the team and making us the victors of the tournament.
