Masters perform well at Timperley

The team of veterans enjoyed a warm sunny day of hockey at the Timperley festival. First up was Gloucester, who beat us in the final last year. Dillworth kept us in the game with a couple of fine saves before Roberts hit a sweet strike to win the game 1-0.
This was followed up with a battling 1-1 with Bebington, but then a poor performance to lose 2-0 to Prescott.
That left us with a must-win final group game against 'North' who had thus far won every game at a canter. The North team (we still don't know who they were or where they came from) had been annoying everyone by behaving professionally, warming up before games and shirking beer. Wulfs were ready with the finest performance of the day. Andy Stephens our guest player was clearly on a mission and despite being hacked mercilessly set up the opening goal, before sodding off home for a kid's party.
Timperley virgin Iain Gray continued to run like a maniac and disrupt the North attempts to build from the back, while Rich Roberts ruled in midfield. Wulfs sealed an impressive 2-0 and progressed on goal difference to the semi. Highlight of the day was seeing Wolves Khalsa eliminated at the group stage and sloping off home early.
The semi-final against Timperley was a close-run thing and we had a number of chances to score - two for yours truly and one for Kam Maan. A mess-up in defence let Timperley in for a goal late on and it was time to go home.
A good time was had by all, and hopefully we will lift the trophy next time around.
