Match Report | The 2nd XI travelled away to Kings Heath for the 2nd friendly of the new season. We more cry offs and the Captain back after a week off the team had changed yet again, albeit with 8 over the O40s Team making up a bare 11 squad!! With a very bouncy dry carpet to play on we knew it was a 'stick up straight' game however after the team talk the first ball from Kings Heath slowly bounced away towards the defence only for Hemming to casually let it carry on bouncing past his stick for a 16!! I'm a self-diagnosed person with dementia so how the game played for 70 minutes I’m not too sure of the detail, however the team settled down and we got ourselves together with some good passing and moving of ball. Credit must go to the more seasoned players who controlled the ball back and forth together waiting patiently for a gap to open and when it did, bang Goal scored (by somebody??) New signing Ash Taylor and Owen Shave paired up well today and carried some great unselfish passing making chances for each other and the team. Ash coming back from 8 years of non-playing is getting up to speed very well and can see him threatening Jandu's 'goal scorer of the club' award this season!! Two Eds (Carver and Thompson), Midfield duo Upton and Roberts and Chris Tibble back to his right wing position also deserve a mention with good running and play today. Last Year’s Player of the Season Alex Thompson had a stunning game and totally ruined the gameplay of their Centre fwd. and completely left him frustrated and out of the game. Our short corners were not too successful this week but we will work on that! As for the goalkeeper Dil, he had nothing to do apart for fetch the ball for the odd 16 yard free hit! (more of this please) So after much debate we believe to have won 7-0 Goals by Rich Roberts 1, Chris Tibble 2, Owen Shave 2, Ash Taylor 2 . Man of the Match – Alex Thompson.
Well done 2s a great team playing game, great start to the season!
