Match Report | This was going to be an unusual game, we were going to Leek on a sunny warm day, and even more unusually when we got to Leek it was still a very pleasant day, not quite so warm, but still sunny! In the corresponding game in the first half of the season we beat this young team 6-1 win. It was clear from the off that they had matured through the season and this was not going to be such an easy game. They showed good pace down the right wing, and failure to tightly control them put us at risk. Our first goal came about 15 minutes into the game Ray Jeff picked the ball up in the middle of the pitch and despite being tightly marked managed to make space and passed the ball out to the left, the ball was driven into the D where Sam Aldersley was waiting to collect his first of the afternoon. Within about 5 minutes Leek struck back with a well taken goal, clearly this was not going to be as easy as the previous fixture! About 5 minutes before half time we got back in the lead, this time with a goal from John Murray in a great move from our defence, straight up the right wing from Kai Thorpe to Dilshad Bains and on to John who showed a turn of pace and confidently slotted the ball home. 2-1 up at half time, we weren’t playing badly but we needed more. Two minutes into the second half Sam Aldersley got his third and our second, but all credit to Leek, they didn’t give up and came back at us scoring their second coming through from central midfield. With 10 minutes to go Sam collected his hat-trick ad our 4th goal, we managed to close the game down and came out worthy winners. All in all, a very unusal pleasant day in Leek! |
