Match Report | Having won 4 of their last 5 games Lichfield appeared to be in form, and after drawing with them in the first half of the season, this promised to be a closely fought game. The Lichfield team was a young team with a few wise heads, so it really looked as though we would have our work cut out. In the first 5 minutes they attacked strongly and we were most definitely on the back foot, however on a counter attack, right on the edge of the D Sam Colman struck a shot, which Lichfield’s keeper appeared to jump over, and we were 1-0 up! Lichfield continued to attack and yet within the next 10 minutes we were 3-0 up thanks to goals from Sam Aldersley and Adam Tustin. A score line which did not reflect the run of play, but rather we made our shots count, and our defence was strong enough to prevent Lichfield getting in clean shots. Lichfield did not buckle and continued to attack scoring a goal just after Sam Aldersley had put us 4-0 ahead. Ray Jeff, our captain for the day, urged us at his half time team talk not to get carried away and concentrate on securing the victory, a 0-0 second half would have been fine. In the second half we probably had slightly more of the play, but Lichfield kept fighting, and if we had failed to concentrate, they would have capitalised on any lapse. As it was we kept pushing adding further goals from Adrian Hill off a short corner and Sam Aldersley rounded off a fine performance with a hat-trick goal. Annoyingly Lichfield scrambled a goal in the second half, to give the final 6-2 score. Quite a contrast to last week’s game were had a plenty of possession but struggled to score, this week we took our chances while the opposition struggled to score. |
