Match Report | A pressure off game as Stone were only able to muster 8 payers for their 4th team, and conceded the match 3-0 under league rules. However they brought their 8 men and we added 2 for the first half, Barrie Sheldon and Michael Birch and in the second half they had the additional benefit of Chris Tutton. Although the scoreline suggests a one sided match, this was certainly not the case. However we did go 2 up in the first 10 minutes, both counter attacks to Stone’s first 2 attacks on us. Stone had a few good youngsters and some wise old heads, and although we scored all 7 of our goals in the first half, they did not give up and kept attacking us, with some of their youngsters showing real promise. Sam Aldersley scored 3 for us in the first half which underlined his potential. Our other new youngster Kai Thorpe was playing in defence and had a solid game. The half time score was 7-2, which shows we didn’t have it all our own way. Our debutants this week, David Foster and Iain Gray, sadly could not be described as youngsters, but they did give the midfield the benefit of their experience and Fozzie even scored! If we had the rub of the green in the first half, we didn’t in the second half, with us “losing” the second half 0-1. Chris Tutton came on for Stone to even the numbers up, and I don’t believe even he would claim the difference was down to his presence. We seemed to have just as many attacks, but without the goals. Overall it was an enjoyable afternoon’s hockey played in a good spirit. Our goal scorers were:- Sam Aldersley 3, Gary o’Sullivan 2, David Foster 1, John Murray 1 |
