Match Report

With last week’s shock defeat to the 5ths , it was no surprise to see some changes, it was particularly pleasing to see some of the 5ths younger players coming through and Kai Thorpe and Sam Aldersley, both played extremely well. We also welcomed back Craig Thomas in goal. With the new players, and many of us playing in slightly different positions, it took the first half for us to pull together as a team.

Stafford played well and attacked hard against, they had a goal disallowed from a short corner as the ball came off one of their players knees. 0-0 at half time was probably a fair score.

We were stronger in the second half, with Sam having some good runs against Stafford’s defence. Finally we got the breakthrough, with Gary o’Sullivan scoring from the left. The last few minutes were fairly frenetic, Stafford attacking hard and we defended stoutly, trying to keep the ball out of our half for as long as possible as we countered, and we could have scored again.

It was certainly a relief to get a win, but compared to our 7-0 win against Stafford earlier in the season, it shows we’ve still got a long way to go before we are back to our best, but the fight back has started.
