Match Report | Was this El Classico, one team in maroon and the other in white? Stone came into this game with 2 home wins and 2 away defeats. We knew from bitter experience away wins at Stone at 4th team level are rare events. Old Wulfs exerted the bulk of the pressure in the first half, having several shots and goal mouth scrambles, but unable to score any goals. None of Stone’s first-half attacks came to anything. The half time message for Old Wulfs was keep pushing and it will come. In the second half the mid field opened up, and the game was more end to end. 10 minutes into the half, Stone scored from a break away, Old Wulfs immediately countered from the push-back with Gary o’Sullivan scoring. After a further five or so minutes, Stone had another break away from which they again managed to score. Old Wulfs got back level fairly soon after with a mid field ball from Ray Jeff to David Carver, who put the ball straight into the D where Barrie Sheldon was able to drive it home, and put us level. A degree of niggle came into the game with some questioning of some of the umpires decisions by both sides, this culminated with Gary o’Sullivan and a Stone player being given 5 minutes R&R. He came back on with about 2 minutes to go, from where Gary was able to guide it into the goal to gve Old Wulfs victory. Old Wulfs are clearly the Real deal! |
