Match Report | Wulfs had to grind out a win to pile the pressure on rivals Bloxwich. Leamington travelled with a squad of 15 and started the game with great confidence. Wulfs defence had to soak up waves of attack and managed to scramble away a couple of chances before a quick Leamington break resulted in a quality far-post finish. At the other end Dave Ward was unable to convert penalty corner opportunities as normal. After the opening goal Wulfs fought back, and Wilson levelled with a terrific reverse-stick shot into the far corner. Ablard took control of midfield while Ash Taylor tormented Leamington with his pace on the flank. It was Taylor who set up the second, sending Wilson one on one with the goalie. The big striker kept his cool to slot the ball home. In the second half Wulfs consolidated, Humpherson pushing forward to bolster the midfield. Wilson completed his hattrick after being brought down by the 'keeper for a penalty stroke which he dispatched into the roof of the net. Fingers crossed now that Leamington can raise their game to beat Bloxwich next week. Man of the match: Ablard. |
