Match Report | As the funfair warmed up behind the Droitwich astro it was clear this would be a roller-coaster ride for Old Wulfs. After beating them easily first time around it wasn't such a cakewalk here. After a bright start the Droitwich attack went helter-skelter for a goal, and duly converted a penalty corner to take the lead. It seemed Wulfs were struggling to get used to the poor state of the pitch; giving the ball away regularly to invite pressure. Wulf managed to level before half time thanks to Ablard picking up the leftovers of a Dave Ward pen corner. The second half is slightly difficult for me to report on, distracted as I was by the funfair a few metres behind me pumping out dance music, diesel fumes and the aroma of reheated fried onions. Things began well though as Wulfs waltzed through to score in the first minute, a sweet move ending in an early shot from Griffiths leaving the 'keeper flat-footed. Droitwich resorted to playing dodgems, with Ablard, Litchfield and Taylor all flattened by awkward tackles. It was a sign of a tiring side, and Wulfs took advantage. The lead was extended thanks to a rare Mike Birch penalty corner, and the points were sealed later by a scrambled Will Ashworth goal. So, the candy floss was in the bag... oh I can't be bothered with the funfair puns any more. Darryl Ablard won the goldfish for man of the match (couldn't resist that one!) |
