Match Report | Wulfs survived a nail-biting finish to extend their lead in West Mids 1. The visitors came out of the blocks quickly to take a 2-0 lead in the first half, as Wulfs struggled to adapt to an altered formation and the pace of the Oswestry attack. Both goals resulted partly from a lack of control and partly due to an inability to deal with tricky fast attackers. However the tide began to turn as Ben Humpherson started to neutralise the threat through the middle of the park, and Oswestry began realise that maybe they should have brought a full squad of players. Mark Wilson relished his return to the Wulfs' forward line and grabbed a goal back before half-time with a decisive volley. The home side started to dominate in the second period, especially as Andy Peters, returning to Wolverhampton for the first time this season and fed down the right by Dave Ward, terrorised the tiring Oswestry players. Ed Hole should have equalised but smashed a short range effort wide, before comedically controlling an aerial with his cute little backside. Chris Tutton levelled the game mid-way through the half with a majestic unstoppable torpedo of a strike, topped off by a Herculean celebration. Dave 'one tackle' Cartwright earned his nickname with a sweet take to set up the move that lead to the winner. Wilson was on hand again to fool the keeper and slot home. He still failed to get a man of the match vote. Oswestry gave their all to pull level, forcing a diving save, then winning a penalty corner as the final whistle blew. Dave Ward calmly cleared the ball to win the match and earn another crucial 3 points. Again Wulfs grabbed a win without offering their best performance. Man of the match: Dave Cartwright! |
