1st Team Vs Barlaston

Against struggling Barlaston a hatful of goals was the expectation, but as on previous occasions this season Wulfs made hard work of simply getting the three points. Things started badly when Griffiths had to take a detour to collect his best shoes for after the game.

The early exchanges promised much. Wulfs swept the ball around with great composure and looked truly impressive in possession. And the opening goal soon followed - Ablard smashed a ball into the circle and Ashworth applied the deftest of touches to score. 

After the goal it was like watching a different game. Wulfs subsided into old bad habits, running straight into opposition sticks, poor control, wayward passes. Wilson aerialed out of the ground and against the lamp post. Barlaston deployed their only real weapon, the aerial, and a particularly well directed example found a man on the left hand side of the circle, who then dispatched his effort with great skill.

Barlaston nearly took the lead; another aerial found their silver-haired centre forward alone on the top of the area, his half-volley blocked by the onrushing goalie.

1-1 at halftime and plenty of work to do, but the second half wasn't much better. Wulfs scored when Wilson executed a penalty corner slipped to Ablard who finished things off.

There were one or two more chances at either end but as time ran down Wulfs finally managed to take control again and see out the win.

Notably Ash Taylor made his 1st team league debut with an impressive performance, and Rob Hemmings relived his youth with a brief cameo appearance.
