Match Report | Wulfs had to grind out a result against a resolute Newtown side. Newtown had to concede their home advantage as their newly laid pitch wasn't ready. So the game was played at a suspect Aldersley ground instead. In typical fashion Wulfs dominated possession early on, but couldn't penetrate the sold Welsh defence. Newtown attacked on the break, counterattacking and making use of their aerial specialist. It was one of these couters that lead to Newtown taking the lead. Wilson deflected a shot into the air which eluded two defenders and allowed a back post finish. Old Wulfs seemed unable to mount a sustained period of pressure and were unable to control the ball properly on the bobbly surface. By the second half Wulfs had got to grips with the pitch and completely dominated the game, but it still took twenty minutes before Tutton picked out Griffiths to place the ball past the keeper to make it 1-1, by which time Ablard had also found the back of the net, only for it to be disallowed. Dave Ward then coolly converted a penalty stroke before Ashworth made the game safe, only to be sent off for a sarcastic remark to the umpire. Newtown claimed a late goal to ensure a nervy last two minutes but Old Wulfs continued their 100% start to the season. Man of the Match: Ablard.
