The final match before the league restarts saw the 2s take on Old Hales at WGS. We began in the best possible way, taking the lead inside the first minute when Satchwell picked up the ball on the right and beat several men before pushing the ball past the keeper. Unfortunately, after this exciting start the next 50 minutes of the game passed largely without incident. Of course, that isn’t counting the four goals the opposition scored in that time, but I won’t bore you with unimportant details.
Instead, let’s skip to 15 minutes to go, when Wulfs began to show the sort of form that we hope to take into league games. Another impressive solo effort got us back into the game, this time Tibble showing great close control to get through the defence and then finishing low into the corner. Soon afterwards Lally made it 4-3, collecting his own rebound at a short corner and making no mistake with the second attempt. Finally, with around two minutes to go Wulfs pulled level, with a one-two between Tibble and Tutton allowing the latter to equalise. We had a chance to win with a short corner after the final whistle, but Lally’s flick was saved well by the keeper. An impressive comeback, which will hopefully give us confidence going into the Bloxwich game next week.
