Before a ball had even been hit, Colin had passed his responsibility of the day to Birchy as Colin was seemingly indisposed on the lavatory. So Mark Wilson stepped up in goal.... Or so we thought. A miscommunication turned out to be the best decision of the day, with Old Wulfs playing with11 outfield players instead of having a goal keeper.
Straight from the push back Old Wulfs looked calm and in control and a slick team move ended up with Ablard pushing the ball to the back post and finding Birchy unmarked for the simplest of tap ins. Dave Cartwright's run across the keeper had taken two defenders with him to give the space for the pass. 1-0 to Old Wulfs.
As the first half continued Old Hales found it difficult to break down the Old Wulfs midfield and defence, rarely finding space and more often than not pushing the ball off the pitch looking for direct ball to goal. From a free hit Wilson threw an ariel which fell kindly for Shave. The shot was saved by the keeper, but Shave calmly reverse passed it to Ashworth who ran in at the back post to tap into an empty net. 2-0 at half time.
The second half started slow for Old Wulfs with Old Hales looking to get an early goal to get back in the game. The goal came in the strangest of fashions. A ball drilled into the D deflected up over everyone and as the ball fell back to ground Ashworth tried a back foot cover drive which he completely missed, making opposition players dive out of the way in fear of their lives, and as the ball hit the ground it fell directly on to Ashworth's foot.
From the short corner it was a simple finish for Old Hales who registered their first and only shot on target for the game as they played the ball in the bottom corner. 2-1. From the re start the game became scrappy and it took a few minutes of Old Wulfs possession to regain composure. With composure regained Old Wulfs moved the ball with purpose and attacked the Old Hales back line again. Old Wulfs got their 3rd goal with a slick one two between Griff and Dave Cartwright as Griff finished low into the bottom right hand corner.
Old Hales tried to get back into the game but never really threatened as Old Wulfs worked hard for each other tackling in pairs making it very difficult. A great team effort with everyone putting in a shift.
