Match Report

The 22 February saw the badgers travel away to Lichfield again. Having gone down 4-1 previously this was always going to be a tough match, especially with no substitutes and some newer players. After a few initial attacks by Lichfield, the badgers started to edge control and put together some fantastic passing hockey, using the space through Karram and Callum on the wings and generating a number of great opportunities. The pressure finally tolled and Sam was put through for the first goal. Lichfield caught on the hop, were pedestrian on the restart and once again the badgers pushed forward through Kai and Tom in Midfield and Sam put away a quick second. Disaster then struck, with veteran Mike being taken by injury. Down to 10, the badgers defended well, but allowed Lichfield in to end the half 2-1. Shortly after the break, Lichfield pressed home the 1 man advantage and equalised after a series of great saves by Dan. The badgers again defended well through Ben and Kieren and held Lichfield off well. Controlling the midfield once again, Kai and Tom pushed up the pitch and created another opportunity which Sam converted, but Lichfield quickly recovered and equalised once again. The momentum had shifted and the 10 badgers battled hard, and were then down to 9 with another injury; it was looking bleak. In the final phase of the game, the battle-worn badgers again pushed forward and the ball was put through for Karram who passed on to Callum, who smashed it into the back of the goal. An epic victory, Callum was named man of the match by his team for scoring the match winner.
