Match Report

I think we saved our best performance for the last league game of the season, Stafford were still in with a chance of topping the league, having lost the first game 5 1 against them we set up in a defensive formation aiming to hit them on the break. Elliot Gwilt had a solid game in defence, and in general we stifiled their attacks. For the first time this season we remembered to keep running when we had won the ball back, giving the player in posession passing options. Sam Colman, Ryan Harding and Tom Ward all making excellent forward runs. Sam Colman made excellent pass for jandu to run onto, who squared the ball to Tom, who was very unlucky as his reverse stick shot hit the post past the prone stafford keeper, no score at halftime. The second half continued in the same fashion, with stafford getting more frustrated,we broke the deadlock with an excellent ball from Colman to Jandu, who drew a defender out and crosssed for Ward to finish sweetly first time on his reverse stick. Stafford equalised from a defensive error born of inexperience, where we turned our back on an attacker who had won a free hit in the 25, he self took and wandered into the d unopposed and struck a good shot into the goal. We continued to play well and took the lead with a bit of route one hockey, Cooper to jandu just over the halfway line, to ward who squared back to jandu, who should have scored but hit the keeper, but then squared the rebound to Tom who finished neatly with his front stick. The game hung in the balance until the end where we conceded a debated goal where the ball was fired in from the 25 and a defelection was claimed and awarded. Overall good game , good performance and good umpires.
