Old Wulfs 2-4 Stafford
Chris Tutton (1), Ed Craddock (1)
After two wins on the bounce the 2s went into this week’s game against unbeaten Stafford knowing that a win should secure safety. In true Old Wulfs style we were behind inside a minute, but after this early setback we settled into the game and began to create some chances of our own. The equaliser came when a Hemmings short corner hit a foot on the line and Tutton scored the resulting flick, but almost instantly we were behind again when a Satchwell pass was intercepted and Stafford broke quickly to score. By half time we were level again thanks to a well worked team goal. The ball was played to Cooper in the midfield and his superb long pass allowed Tutton to tee up Roberts, whose effort was deflected home by Craddock.
Nightingale began the half time team talk by telling us how well we were doing to be 2-1 up, and remained optimistic even after we broke the news to him that the score was actually 2-2. We went into the second half confident that we could get something from the game, but suffered a setback several minutes in when Hemmings fell awkwardly and had to go off. Without a sub we began to lose our control over the match, and midway through the second half we went behind when a slip from Lally gave a Stafford forward a simple tap in. We struggled to create chances to get ourselves back into the game and a fourth goal late on ended it. Another good team performance, especially in the first half, but a disappointing result. Defeats for both Leamington and Redditch mean that we are still seven points clear of the relegation zone and another step closer to safety.
MOTM: Seven players received votes, another positive of the performance, but Dill is the winner this week after several good saves. |
