Match Report Old Wulfs 4-6 Telford Chris Tutton (1), Stuart Upton (1), Chris Tibble (2) This week the 2s faced off against Telford, hoping to pick up some points to move us further away from the relegation zone. By ten minutes in however, the goal had changed to keeping the score vaguely respectable after a diabolical start to the game. First, Lally forced a man onto his reverse side and dared him to shoot (which he did, into the roof of the net), before another was allowed to run through our defence and score, and then a third found himself unmarked on top of the D and took full advantage, firing into the top corner. 3-0. After that Wulfs play improved considerably, and we were soon back in the game when Roberts fed Tutton, who reversed into the far corner. A quick response from Telford took us into half time with a score of 4-1, but a much improved last 20 minutes gave us the belief that we could still get a result. Just after the restart Upton picked up the rebound at a short corner and reduced the deficit, but not long afterwards the game was temporarily abandoned when both teams decided that they didn’t want to get pelted by hail or struck by lightning. After some time spent cowering behind a building and debating whether or not there was any metal in the opposition goalkeeper’s helmet we went back on, and Wulfs were able to ignore the suddenly freezing conditions and stay on top. Tibble scored from another short corner to make it 4-3, before a quick break down the left involving Colman, Tutton and Satchwell eventually put Tibble in on goal again, and his shot was deflected over the keeper for the equalizer. For the second time in three games we had come back from 4-1 down, and at that stage looked the more likely winners, but the last ten minutes was a similar story to the first. We went behind again when a Telford player lifted the ball into Colman’s thigh but was inexplicably given the decision and allowed to break down the right unchallenged and cross to give his teammate an easy finish. We were carved open one last time with a couple of minutes to go, and conceded another to make the final score 6-4. A very disappointing result after we’d worked so hard to get back into it.
