Match Report |
Old Wulfs travelled to Bloxwich this week to face a team who had a fairly formidable attacking force and it’s fair to say we took the full brunt of it. Within the opening couple of minutes Bloxwich had scored their opening goal and a couple more goals quickly followed suit. We struggled to adapt to Bloxwich’s very quick and skill full forwards and at times we appeared to play too high up the pitch, granting the Bloxwich forwards the space they needed. However, despite conceding 4/5 goals Old Wulfs began to apply the pressure back onto Bloxwich and large holes began to develop in their back line – something we tried to exploit with lally’s aerial balls. Our persistence was eventually rewarded after Hole struck the post and Tibble pounced upon the rebound. Shortly afterwards we also managed to win a short corner which was coolly dispatched by Upton into the bottom left corner. Half time came around and we were 6-2 down, the tide certainly was against us. The second half started far more brightly for the travelling team with Satchwell and Craddock starting to find space and distribute the ball around the pitch. However we ultimately couldn’t contain three or four of Bloxwich’s forwards and roughly half their goals were scored on breakaways from a previous Old Wulf attack. The end of the match came and the score line was 9-2. It was arguably a highly frustrating match as Old Wulfs did have large periods of possession and pressure, ultimately being undone by two or three Bloxwich players who could comfortably play in teams two leagues above us, if not more. Lessons need to be learnt going into what promises to be a very challenging game against Telford next week. MOTM: Ed Craddock |
