2nd Team Vs Wolverhampton

It's fair to say that this week was a must win for the 2s, not only because we were searching for our first win but also we were playing our long time rivals, Wolverhampton.

The game started strongly in Old Wulfs favour as we pressed hard from the start, giving Wolverhampton little chance to settle into the game. After ten minutes our pressure play paid of and Coleman latched onto a cross on the back post and swept the ball in. 1-0 Old Wulfs. Wolverhampton had their chances which were largely set up by a chap who was a 1st teamer, something which Wolves even admited to. However our defence smothered any attack that came our way. Wolverhampton struggled to defend against our quick counter attacks as they often committed too many men forward, leaving our midfield and forwards to take full advantage. A nice little passage of play which came down the right hand side of the pitch found Shave unmarked in the 'D' who cooly swept it past the Wolverhampton keeper. Our third goal came soon after with Tibble striking the ball on a short corner to be deflected in by an unlucky Wolverhampton stick. However shortly before this our powerhouse of midfield, ED Hole, sustained a life threatening injury when the ball hit him a bit hard on the foot and he had to have ten minutes of recovery time.  Wolves managed to get a goal back when they drag flicked the ball above Dilly's head. 

The second half started with the momentum slowly starting to swing towards Wolverhampton's way. Old Wulfs struggled to maintain possession as we kept gifting the ball back to the opposition. It's fair to say at this point the game started to get very 'physical' and the long term rivalry between the clubs began to flare up. This accumilated in one of their players being sent off and the Wolverhampton fan base being told to keep quiet on the sidelines in order to try and keep tempers down. Wolverhampton started to loose their rag and the ten minutes of previous possession now moved back into Old Wulfs hands. It was the Wolverhampton keeper who made a couple of fine saves (with a triple save from Nighters) which kept the scores at 3-2, as any other day Old Wulfs could have been 4/5-2 up.

The final whistle blew and Old Wulfs had their first win!! And too add to this the showers were now working, huzzar!!
