Old Wulfs 8 - 2 Bromsgrove

For the final match of the season, Old Wulfs had a visit from 2nd in the league, Bromsgrove. In the previous fixture Bromsgrove won 6-4. Colin's team talk expressed a priority on ensuring Old Wulfs played as a team that would look for promotion next season.

The game started very high tempo, with Old Wulfs passing and playing with a confidence that everyone in team shared, and it was not long until Old Wulfs started to create chances and finish them. The first goal came from Griff chasing a through ball from the midfield, rounding the keeper and just before the ball went out of play scoring from the tightest of angles. The second goal from Hole, top of the D striking the ball, topping it and watching the bouncing bobbler elude the Bromsgrove defence and their goal keeper. Old Wulfs were nearly pegged back when a move from Bromsgrove scrappily got through the defence and the shot on goal was wonderfully thwarted by Dave Cartwright on the line.

From this minor scare Old Wulfs went on and scored goals number 3 4 and 5. Goal three from Ablard, a long corner on the left found Matt Cartwright in space, driving towards the D and striking the ball into Ablard, via a Andy peters deflection, for Ablard to strike past a static keeper. 4 was a trademark Wilson drag flick into the right of the side netting and 5 a gift from the Bromsgrove keeper. Matt Cartwright striking the ball into the D and for some unknown reason, the Bromsgrove keeper attempted to flick the ball with heel, but only ended up putting the ball in his own net. Old Wulfs did however concede when 3-0 up and were very unlucky to do so, a Bromsgrove short corner initial shot travelled above back board at Colin whose instinct was to put a glove on it, deflected the ball into the net. However the goal should not have stood as the strike was clearly above back board. 5-1 at glad time.

The second half was just as impressive, as Old Wulfs closed the game scoring 3 goals in the last 15 minutes. The large periods of the half Old Wulfs pressed tirelessly and created numerous chances, however it was Bromsgrove who scored first and again from a short corner. The initial shot was stopped on the line by Dave Ward but the rebound fell kindly for a Bromsgrove attacker who finished the chance. Straight from the re start Old Wulfs passed and retained possession, passing the ball through the team up to Ed Hole, who buried the chance into the bottom corner. Number 7 came from Griff, finding time and space at the top of the D, striking into the bottom corner. Number 8 was from a short corner, Dave Wards initial strike was saved by the keeper, however Ablard reacted fastest and flicked the ball into the top right. 8-2 final score

A superb game which saw Old Wulfs put on their best performance of the season, every player worked hard for each other and every player had a role to play. The passing was fast and accurate, chances were taken and every player put a shift in... Including Manesh and his voice.
