Match Report |
After a disappointing loss against Leamington the previous week, Old Wulfs were looking to bounce back, however they faced top of the league and local rivals Kingswinford. The pre match emphasis was on pressing high to improve the chance of an early goal. While the early goal never appeared, Old Wulfs dominated the play and the possession, carving opportunities freely just not converting. After a sustained period of pressure on the Kingswinford goal, the ball broke to Ablard who finished low into the corner to give Old Wulfs a deserved lead. After scoring Old Wulfs inexplicably dropped in tempo and allowed Kingswinford back into the game. and a lapse in concentration allowed a K'ford player to ghost in top of the D and score, the shot wrong footing Colin in goal who's glove almost diverted the shot wide. 1-1 at half time. The second half started very open with both sides comfortable on the ball, the game could have gone either way. With the game becoming stretched, Andy Peters pulled in off the right wing creating a pocket of space for Birch to run into from right back. Peters turned and played the ball into the space where Birch collected, drove into the box and crashed the ball into the bottom corner. Old Wulfs continued to dominate the game and finally added a 3rd with Peters rounding the keeper and finishing quite sensibly and calmly, reverse stick over the sprawling keeper to give Old Wulfs a deserved 3-1 lead. Kingswinford did their best to get back into the game and had a succession of short corners but the defence and midfield were resolute and kept the opposition players at bay. The game could have gone either way but at the end of the game Old Wulfs were thrilled with the victory and performance, Andy Peters being the man of the match.
