Match Report

After two disappointing losses, Old Wulfs were determined to turn their season around. The opposition were Redditch, a team who had had a mixed opening to their season.

The game began in frantic fashion as old Wulfs looked to dominate early possession and take an early lead. However old Wulfs lost possession in the midfield and Redditch's midfielder ran through on goal with the old Wulfs defence parting like the Red Sea and the Redditch midfielder beat Pearson at his near post... Bad start.

Old Wulfs were not to be disheartened and began carving chances and pressing their opposition. Against the run of play Redditch won a short corner and managed to squirm the ball in despite Pearson getting a pad to it... 2-0 Redditch.

From the re start old Wulfs moved the ball with more purpose and Litchfield found himself in unknown territory, right midfield, a quick one two with Ashworth and he drilled the ball into the D, finding Griffiths with a majestic Thiery Henry-esque flick into the far post 2-1 at half time.

The second half found Old Wulfs asserting themselves more. Winning plenty of short corners, and for once Old Wulfs had a high conversion rate, seeing Dave Ward score a hatrick from short corners putting Old Wulfs 4-2 up. The second half was a much more scrappy affair with Redditch losing 4 players to yellow cards, 3 at the same time as they felt decisions were not in their favour and the players showing their disagreement were given their marching orders. Old Wulfs should have gone 5-2 up but had a goal disallowed for a ball being deemed dangerously lifted into the D before Birch had put into the net. Redditch managed to score a late penalty flick to make for a nervy last 5 minutes, but Old Wulfs held out for the win, for which they greatly deserved.
