Match Report

Missing 5 first team players meant Wulfs faced a big challenge for the first home league fixture of the season. Without so many players due to illness, injury, trips to centreparks (?) and a nice bike ride (??) the team were fortunate to be able to call on the likes of Alex Gray back from university, Rich Roberts and Alex Thompson despite his 60 hour work week which he only mentioned half a dozen times.

Ludlow began strongly and dominated the game, but Wulfs defended equally strongly against the challenge of the Ludlow Pratts. After a great double-save from Pearson Ludlow managed finally to take the lead thanks to a Penalty corner strike. The away team couldn't maintain their dominance, thanks to an impressive performance from Thompson, precision bombing by Lally and Dave Ward stepping into the gap between defence and midfield.

Old Wulfs then began to work their way into the game, pressing Ludlow high into their own half. Gray compensated for Ablard's slight lack of mobility due to injury, and Griffiths put in yet another massive effort to maintain possession. The equaliser from a penalty corner took Wulfs into half-time looking confident, with Roberts rolling back the years on the right, and a beautiful passing move almost ended with a spectacular goal to put Wulfs in the lead, but it wasn't to be.

Disaster struck at the beginning of the second half. With Roberts off for a yellow and Ablard sidelined Wulfs conceded two quick goals which effectively settled the game.

After that Wulf pressed hard to get back into it, but the result was to allow Ludlow more space to counter-attack, which they did twice to finish the game at 5-1.
