Match Report

With pre season over, and a number of difficult fixtures against greater opposition finished, it could only be the start of the new season. Old Wulfs travelled to a Bloxwich side who they did the double over last season, where we were dubbed "the worst team in the league" by the opposition. The game plan was decided to press the opposition and give them no space.

This worked for the first 10-15 minutes where old Wulfs retained possession and created a few chances. As the game went on and substitutions began old Wulfs lost their shape and Bloxwich came back into the game. Bloxwich managed to score two scrappy short corners at the back end of the first half to take a lead into the break, the second of which awarded after Alan Brown had stopped the ball with his glove on the ground.

The team talk was emphasised doing what we started; pressing high, posting up and following the pass. Again Old Wulfs started well in the first 10 minutes of the second half, retaining possession well and trying to force level, however on the odd attack from Bloxwich managed to hit the post and convert the rebound and their tails were up.

The rest of the game was scrappy with Bloxwich scoring another to make the result slightly more emphatic than the game actually was. Will Ashworth was sent off late on for throwing his stick in frustration which the umpire did willingly with a smile.  All in all a game of possession for old Wulfs who lacked the final ball and the finish to match the chances they created. Bloxwich deserved the win for their desire to win every ball and get stuck in.
