3rd Team Vs Bloxwich 3rds

3rds welcomed second placed Bloxwich who were also the league’s leading scorers to WGS in the rearranged fixture originally scheduled as the final game of 2022.

Prior to the game the two teams lined up in the centre of the pitch where a few words were said in memory of club president Mike Mann who sadly passed away on boxing day, followed by a minutes silence, impeccably observed by all present.

This game was always going to be a tough one, and so it turned out. Some would say it was just a “Bad day at the office”, with two many players not at the races. To summarise Wulf’s were often slow to react, whether that was to the second ball, supporting attack or in picking up opposition players. On two occasions, 6 defending Wulf’s against 4 Bloxwich players leaving 2 unmarked led to Wulf’s being 2-0 down with 21 minutes gone.  Bloxwich added a third with around a minute left of the half with Wulf’s going in at half time 3-0 down.

Following the half time chat, Old Wulf’s started the second half more brightly, with a much improved performance, the marking was sharper but Wulf’s were still either standing off or trying to carry the ball too far when easier options were available. On 49mins Bloxwich scored again to make it 4-0, however within two minutes Wulf’s pulled one back when Gurnham hit a firm shot past Bloxwich’s keeper from just inside the D. 4 mins from the restart  Bloxwich were awarded a Penalty Corner to make it 5, which effectively wiped out any new found confidence from Old Wulf’s.  Bloxwich went on to score two further goals on 57 & 63 mins to make it 7-1 and move to the top of the table.

Summary, not at our best but we pick ourselves up and go again next week.
