Match Report

Old Wulfs Over 40s travelled to Leicester for the first round of the cup and the first under the stewardship of new Captain Gary O'Sullivan.

The squad assembled at Leicester Grammar School for a midday start. Before the game could commence a minutes silence was held to mark Remembrance Sunday.

Leicester started the brighter of the two teams and soon opened the scoring. Wulfs equalised with their first attack, the skipper scoring on his reverse. The home side continued to dominate possession and soon went in front again. Continuing the pattern of the half Wulfs equalised with their second chance of the half. A short corner to Stephens was passed to O'Sullivan who instead of shooting slipped the ball to an unmarked Evans who slotted home from the P spot. Unfortunately Wulfs couldn't maintain parity before half time and Leicester took the lead again.

The second half was a much more even affair and Wulfs had chances to equalise, Jones hitting the post after a scramble and Jandu going narrowly wide from a volleyed shot.

Unfortunately in the last 10 minutes Leicester scored twice more. So a brave performance from Wulfs but the better team (including a Masters International) go through to the next round.

The skipper would like me to thank the whole team for a spirited performance - Dillworth in goal, back four of Gurnam, Thompson, Porter (Finchfield), Duhra, midfield of Evans, Stephens (Finchfield), Ablard and Jones, and forward duties being shared by O'Sullivan, Lally and Jandu.

Some special mentions - a big thank you to our guest players, the two Andy's (Porter and Stephens) who helped the team massively today. Also a big thank you to Jabb for umpiring and also to his brother in law for being our crowd support for the day. Two other playing highlights today, Gurnam Singh had an outstanding game at right full back and Daryl Ablard put in an amazing shift in midfield, so much so that the opposition were still talking about him in the bar afterwards.

Onwards to the Plate competition.
