Match Report | We lined up for an away fixture at West Brom with one small problem. An accident on the M54 meant a starting line up of only 10 men. West Brom had a very experienced line up and had some very useful players in attack. Old Wulfs worked hard in the first half but struggled to hold the ball, particularly in the attacking half where we were the man short. The man advantage took it's toll, the first half ended 4-0 to West Brom. Tibble made it through traffic to be available for the second half. With 11 men Old Wulfs put up a sterling effort. The (mature) defence (Hemmings, Duhra, Cox, and Thompson) gained a measure of control but the West Brom attack were still very dangerous with Horton in goal kept very busy. The central midfield of Angus and Upton were our shining lights gaining enough of the ball for us to spring the odd attack, the aerial ball from Angus proving our most effective attacking tool. The first goal indeed came from an aerial from Angus, with Lally guiding the inflight ball past the oncoming goalkeeper. Harman and Fisher out wide started to get more of the ball and it was Fisher (J) who guided the second goal home from an Upton lifted pass into the D. Unfortunately West Brom scored another 3 in return, but a much more effective performance in the second half with a full team. Next week brings the start of the league season. |
