Match Report | It was with some trepidation that we returned to Lilleshall to face a team that has been winning all their games and banging in goals left, right and centre. And we went 1-0 behind very early on which didn't bode well, but thereafter began to show some grit and determination, in that order. Newport were quite rightly showing no mercy, and it was clear to see how they have been brushing aside all-comers in our league using a comination of fast flowing play and robust tackling. Simon Heron suffered an injury quite early on which added to the difficulty of our task. After the initial shock facing such a team we began to work out how to best stem the flow of goals and although Newport relentlessly pressed us we managed to hold them at bay and get through to half time at 3-0 down. This was thanks to a combination of stout defending from the back 4 and the hard work of our four young battlers: Harry, Branav, Rithick and Billy. None of them seemed intimidated by the strength of the opposition and acquitted themselves with great determination. Although we rarely paid a visit to the opposition half the second half saw us only concede one goal, and finish with what in the circumstances was a really respectable 4-0 defeat. Man of the Match: A great effort by all but it's Branav who had most impact. |
