Match Report

Old Wulf's welcomed Stone 4ths to WGS for todays game and on the back of a fantastic 4-0 goal comeback to draw 4-4 last week, Wulf’s were hoping to make a positive start. It was however Stone who made the better start, earning a penalty corner within the first 2 minutes, followed by a long corner, both of which were defended well by Wulf’s. From the restart on 4 minutes with Wulf’s having moved the ball across the pitch several times as they advanced towards Stones 23, Wulf’s found some space and were on the attack.  This resulted in a Penalty corner which Jandu dispatched from the top of the D, the ball going under the diving keeper to put Wulf’s 1-0 up.  Old Wulf’s were now firmly in control of the game, moving the ball around nicely and for the most part at ease, their only faults were a lack of movement from once the pass had been made and some slightly under hit passes. On each occasion this allowed Stone to advance with the ball, but on more than one occasion this was easily snuffed out and recycled ahead of Old Wulf’s 23.

Half Time: 1-0. Old Wulf’s.

The second half began as the first had ended with Wulf’s firmly in control, and a dominance which resulted in their second goal on 41 mins, where skilful play by Bravnav resulted in the keeper being beaten from just inside the D. 2-0 Old Wulf’s.  This was followed 4 mins later by a further goal to put Wulf’s 3-0 up where Alex travelled along the goal line from out wide evading Stones defence to beat the keeper close to the goal line from a tight angle.  From the restart Stone did manage to have more play in Old Wulf’s half, especially when Wulf’s were reduced to 10 men following a green card for a stick tackle.  Despite Stone having a 1-man advantage Old Wulf’s remained firm and nothing was conceded during the power play. Stone however earned themselves a penalty corner on 54 mins, this didn’t quite go to plan for Stone, as the injector put the ball between the two receivers, but was recycled by back up player, who put the ball towards the post were a Stone player was who miss hit the ball producing a slow bouncing spinning ball that somehow evaded both the defender on the post and the keeper. 3-1 Wulf’s. From the restart Old Wulf’s pressed again and could have increased their lead on several occasions. They did manage to do just that on 58mins where the ball found an unmarked Nick just inside the D. Nick had time to bring the ball under control before dispatching a well hit shot with precision into the back of the net. 4-1 Old Wulf’s. Old Wulf’s continued their dominance and right at the end were awarded a penalty corner. This goal bound shot then resulted in a P Flick when the ball hit a defender on the line. With the last action of the game Stones keeper diving to their left saved the flick and so it finished with a 4-1 win to Old Wulf’s.

Full Time 4-1 Win.
