Match Report | Old Wulf’s 3rd team having moved up a league into North West Div 9 made the journey to the other side of Wolverhampton to taken on our friends at Finchfield. Old Wulfs started the game but came under pressure early on conceding possession and several short corners. It was from 3 of these short corners that Old Wulfs found themselves 3-0 down in the first 15 minutes. The score line flattered Finches to a certain degree as Finches hadn’t had it all their own way. Old Wulfs had gone close on numerous occasions following excellent play out on the right from Vish, who played some tantalising balls into the D which which Old Wulfs were unable to take advantage of. Old Wulfs continued to work the ball and from a short corner, pulled a go back when Jandu hit a firm shot into Finches Goal. 1-3. Despite the odd scare at the back Old Wulfs defence held firm and following a free hit inside the 23, wide on the left the ball was played back to the capt who played the ball to Jandu at the top of the D, Jandu touched a nicely weighted ball towards the far post were Ed calmly dispatched the ball past the keeper into the net. 2-3 Old Wulfs then got caught flat footed and facing an overload which allowed Finches to advance into their D and score their fourth. 2-4. Despite the set back Old Wulfs brushed themselves down and again the ball found Jandu in the D, who dispatched a shot only to be stopped on the line by a defenders leg. P Flick awarded. Up stepped Jandu 3-4. Ans so it remained until half Time. Half Time 3-4. To Finches. Finches started the second half and immediately piled the pressure on and Old Wulfs conceded two more goals 3-6. Old Wulfs continued to press but were starting to lose those individual battles on the pitch with play breaking down and Old Wulfs finding themselves out of position, tiring legs adding to a loss of shape. Old Wulfs tried to get back into the game, hitting the crossbar, and either running out of pitch or being crowded out in attack. Old Wulfs did score another 1 in the second half through Gary O’Sullivan, but Finches also scored another 3 and so it finished 4-9. Full Time 9-4 Loss. The score line doesn’t represent how close the game was, special mentions to Vish who had the beating of several Finchfield players out wide, and also Harry Brooks who played well on the opposite wing before coming into midfield and really making a case to keep that position in future. In Summary a competitive, and despite the loss an enjoyable game played in a wonderful spirit where respect was evident by all. Goal Scorers: Martin Jandu 2, Ed Thompson 1, Gary O’Sullivan 1. Man of the match: goes to Vish with Harry a close second. |
