Match Report | Old Wulfs 2nds welcomed the 5th team from newly formed Beacon Hockey club to WGS (Beacon formed after a merger between 'Walsall and Aldridge' and Streetly Hockey clubs). The game had a delayed start after a number of Beacon players got stuck in traffic. Beacon consisted mainly of youngsters and they struggled to keep up with the older Wulfs lineup. Gurnam was impeded as he went to shoot and a penalty stroke was awarded, Gurnam himself dispatched for a 1 nil lead. The skipper managing from the sideline would like to take credit for the second goal, he brought on debutant Ted Murray and within seconds he had deflected a shot to score the second goal. The third goal came from a short corner fired home by James Fisher. The final goal before half time came again from Gurnam. The second half was a tighter affair with the young Beacon side more competitive. But Wulfs did manage to increase the lead with two excellent goals. The first a howitzer from a tight angle from James for his 2nd goal. The second a fine solo goal finished on his reverse by Finn. A good team performance but I suspect tougher tests to come this season. A shout out to our debutants Ted Murray and Harry Brookes, Harry showing a frightening turn of pace on a number of occaisions. Also thanks to Rajveer for 'volunteering' to play in central midfield (in the absence of a number of regulars), much appreciated by the team. |
