Match Report

Games of Hockey can be decided by fine margins. Today’s away fixture at Shrewsbury was a case in point. Three events altered the course of the game.

The first half was an even affair played out by two equally matched sides with both sides making chances. Murray had a shot on the half volley go just wide, Harman was unlucky not to score as his goal bound shot was deflected in my Sunni’s foot. Sunni himself having a drag flick short corner saved.

Event 1 – Gurnam went on a run into the D and fired into the corner, unfortunately as he took his swing the umpire blew the whistle. The umpire explained that his fellow umpire had already signaled for a short corner. Gurnam unlucky not to score in similar circumstances for the second week running.

The second half was a similar affair as the first with the battle mainly being fought in the middle of the field with Roberts and Snelford holding their own against a strong Shrews midfield.

Event 2 – The Shrews right winger put in a cross which was bundled into his own net by the unlucky Duhra. The Umpire was about to disallow the goal as he felt the initial cross had not been in the D, however he was called to consult with his umpire colleague and after some discussion the goal was given.

Wulfs chased the game and left themselves open to a counterattack goal.

Event 3 – As Wulfs chased a way back into the game, Gurnam converted a short corner low into the corner. The goal was disallowed as the ball had been struck from outside the D.

Wulfs continue to try and get back in the game and Manni went close with a deflected shot onto the post. Shrews continued to play on the break and scored again.

A great game played by two competitive teams in a good spirit. Thanks to Colin for guesting in goal today, with several vital contributions to the defensive effort.

A good team performance from everyone with Wulfs unlucky to get anything out of the game. Man of the match performance this week  from Roberts who had a titanic tussle all game with his Shews counterpart.
