Match Report |
Saturday’s match took Old Wulfs to North Stafford 5ths. Unusually for an away game we started the match with 13 players. Matt Horton managed to keep his second clean sheet of the season, but was subbed at 5 minutes after ripping his calf muscle. Alex bravely stepped up to play in goal and experienced the stench of Matts kit. Soon after Staffs broke into attack, with a fine save from Alex which bounced towards the goal line. The ball was unintentionally (allegedly) kicked away by Harj’s foot. A penalty flick was awarded. Alex dived towards the ball like a Ninja. Four inches later his body realised it was defying the laws of gravity. He hit the ground like a sack of King Edward spuds . 1 -0 to staffs. A number of attacks from both sides were made before half time with good defending by both sides. Old Wulfs failed to take their chances despite dominating the last 10 minutes.
Old Wulfs were the more determined team in the second half with excellent play by everyone. With the pressure piling on Staffs , we levelled the score with a well taken shot by Harry B at 45th minute. Minutes later Sunny made an important save with his stick, to an ariel shot that would have ended up in the back of the net. Both sides continued to pile on the pressure, but with Old Wulfs having more of the play. With 10 minutes of play remaining, Gurnam slogged a ball horizontally across the pitch to midfield. This ball was quickly launched from midfield to Ted, who skilfully slipped the ball past the keeper to put OW 2-1 up. And this is how the scores stayed. Everyone put in an excellent shift. Harry Usain Bolt was voted as man of the match with Alex in goal a close second. |
