Match Report

The 11 men of Old Wulfs 1s battled through traffic to Newcastle to play against North Stafford 3's, keen to take advantage of the clash taking place between Cannock and Newport elsewhere in the league, knowing we could not afford to drop points 2 weeks in a row.

Old Wulf's started the game much the better side, with excellent shape stretching North Stafford and forcing them into areas they didn't want to be in. Relentless pressure led to a fantastic reverse stick thunderbolt from Singh, on his return to the team, which nestled into the top corner. Old Wulfs kept up the pressure and 1-0 soon became 2-0 following a smart reverse stick finish from Minton from a short corner.

Old Wulfs' dominance continued to half time, with the home team sitting back and hoping to hit on the break, but the visitors easily containing any attacks mustered.

The second half went very much the way of the first, with Old Wulfs forcing North Stafford even further back, making it very difficult to break them down. Eventually pressure told with first Flanagan and then A Aldersley adding to their tallies for the season. As much as they tried, North Stafford couldn't keep Old Wulfs from attacking and the scoring was completed with a smartly taken long corner, which found its way through to Townsend at the far post, who got his deserved goal to make it 5-0.

North Stafford didn't give up and as Old Wulfs tired in the last 10 minutes, they tried to launch more attacks. On the rare occasions the defence was breached, Archer was there to ensure our 5th clean sheet in 10 games was maintained.
