Match Report | Old Wulfs welcomed Finchfield to WGS for what was sure to be a keenly contested local derby. The game started with Finchfield in the ascendency, largely due to a number of misplaced passes and poor decision making, but after 10 or so minutes, Old Wulfs started to claim some authority and took the lead through a wonderful solo goal via Harry Flanagan, dancing around 4 or 5 players in the D before slotting past the helpless keeper. From there Finchfield upped the tempo, cut out almost every through ball and forced Old Wulfs in to more mistakes, leading to an equaliser from a well played cross. A few minutes later Finchfield took the lead through a short corner, and whilst Old Eulfs then became more comfortable as the half wore on, the hosts went in to the break behind. The second half was a huge improvement for Old Wulfs, with the combinations in centre midfield dominating the ball, but our possession didn't lead to many clear cut chances bar some short corners, which were well defended by Finchfield. As the game wore on Old Wulfs pushed more bodies forward in search of an equaliser but this wasn't to come, whilst Finchfield were still a threat on the counter. The game finished 2-1 to our opponents - a definite sucker punch to our confidence but luckily (and somewhat surprisingly) both other title contenders, Newport and Cannock, also dropped points, meaning we are almost as we were going into next week's trip to North Stafford.
