Match Report | Old Wulfs 1s made the trip to Lichfield to play the home club's 4th team - a game which over the last couple of seasons has always been a close affair and decided by the odd goal here or there. Old Wulfs came in to the game full of confidence after last week's win against Cannock, and started the game in the same way, trying to pass the ball around and retain possession. We were met with a very hard working, hard pressing Lichfield team, who managed to start nicking the ball from Wulfs sticks and turn the pattern of play around very quickly, leading to a number of counter attacks which were kept out on numerous occasions by Kevin Tonry in goal and the defensive unit for Old Wulfs, which was working extremely hard to keep Lichfield at bay. Halfway through the half Old Wulfs started to exert some pressure on the Lichfield back line and then deservedly took the lead through another neat passage of play finished by Harry Flanagan. Lichfield continued to press and won a number of short corners which were comfortably repelled, but showed they weren't giving up without a fight. Halftime came a change of formation to try and gain more control of the game meant Old Wulfs were able to take the game more to Lichfield, who seemed to make a positional change themselves to try to get a result. The second half was much more of a battle between the D's, evenly fought and if anything slightly more in favour of Lichfield, but the Wulfs backline meant that Tonry was only called on for a couple of saves, whilst Wulfs still were a threat going forward. No goals in the second half to either team means another win and clean sheet can be chalked up for Old Wulfs 1s, who are firmly in contention for the league title. MOTM today goes to GK Kevin Tonry for a number of great saves in the first half, on his last appearance for Old Wulfs. Scorer - Harry Flanagan |
