Match Report | A chastening afternoon for Old Wulfs 1s away at early pacesetters Newport 1s. Old Wulfs acquitted themselves very well in a high quality first half, giving as good as they got but after approx 20 mins the Newport pressure eventually broke down the defence and our opponents were able to slot home. Newport had been the slightly better team to this point but whilst they were unable to create any chances, the movement and effort of Old Wulfs caused Newport a few problems and as the half wore on, the away team started to gain a bit of dominance in the game. Half time came with the team 1-0 down and carrying a few knocks from what had been a physical first half. There was a degree of belief we were still in the game and knew that it was going to take a huge effort to get anything out of the game. Old wulfs started brightly enough but after about 5 mins Newport doubled their lead with a well taken first time hit from a drilled cross. Their third of the afternoon soon followed and whilst Old Wulfs still put the work in rovtry and break through, we were simply unable to do so. Fatigue from the huge effort put in to the game also told in the last 10 minutes and Newport scored 3 more which in all honesty put an unfair slant on the scoreline, considering for 50 minutes we had given a team steamrollering all before them a very stern test. A 6 -0 defeat isnt an ideal result and there is plenty to work on, bit Old Wulfs have still had a strong start to the season and find themselves in the top half of a table which already has a significant split between the top 5 teams and the rest Captains MOTM goes to Darryl Ablard for a really hard shift in the middle.
