Match Report

4ths traveled to Bishop Vessey to play Sutton Coldfield 8/9ths for a 16:00 hrs start on a Sunny Saturday afternoon. With a bare 11 players against a younger Sutton team comprising 14 players this was always going to be a much harder game than last week's pre season friendly. Early exchanges took place in the middle of the park with each side struggling to make it past the opponents 23m line. Old Wulfs however adjusted well and a series of short corners resulted. Old Wulfs took the lead in the 4th of these with the injected ball being converted by Lewis. HT 1-0 to Old Wulfs. A change of umpires at half time allowed Sutton to bring on a fresh player whose introduction changed the dynamics of their game. Old Wulfs were lucky to escape unpunished within the first five minutes of the restart with Sutton twice latching onto a through ball into the D but fluffing the shot on both occasions. Old Wulfs were starting to feel the pressure and as the half went on Sutton were getting to grips with the game and wining short corners of their own. It was from one of these that Sutton equalised with a deflected shot just evading Rowleys outstretched right boot. Five minutes later, Sutton thought they had taken the lead hitting the back of the net, from the edge of the D, however the goal was disallowed due to the free hit going straight onto the D. Old Wulfs continued to work hard and create chances with Ed and Ray all having chances which flashed past the post following some good work down the right by Noah. A few more chances came and Old Wulfs could have nicked it towards the end with Finn and Lewis combining well. Sutton equally were creating chances and it was from one of these that they won the final short corner of the game just as the final whistle went. After such a hard competitive match they wouldn't would they? The short was played but successfully defended and the game finished 1-1.
Well done to all for  a disciplined performance and for making this an enjoyable competitive game.

Man if the Match Lewis Brain.
