Match Report

On a sunny afternoon we made our way over to wednesbury's home pitch for our second friendly before the season starts in two weeks time. With just the bare eleven due to injury's and personal setbacks, with this in mind wulfs were not phased and started the game with a 3-5-2 formation which gave us lots of control. We started off strong and had a lot of possession before a cheap short corner was given away and a good flick from the Wednesbury taker snuck it's way past the two jandu brothers. 1-0. We finished the first half like we started in total control and with a lot of chances but unable to convert. We went into the second half the way we started the first and the story was the same, we controlled possession and played mainly in their half. Some rough play from the Wednesbury striker who I don't think think got the memo it was a friendly saw him sent off by the umpire. Despite all this we still couldn't capitalise and if it wasn't for 2nd team Stalwart Al Thompson making some quality interceptions god knows what the score would have been. We were eventually we were caught on the break and Wednesbury scored again. 2-0. And like the whole game we were on top. But we just couldn't take our chances from some very promising positions. Unfortunately this is how the game ended but the lads should not be disheartened by their efforts with temperatures above 25 degrees and having only the bare eleven players the lads ran their legs off and worked extremely hard while working with some new players and in a new formation as I prepare for the tough season ahead.

my player of the match is a hard one as all players performed very well. Josh Harris made some excellent runs up front and the wednesbury defence just couldn't deal with him. Al Thompson being a brick wall at the back so my choice has to go to Al Thompson for his solid display at the back. We go again next week against West Brom for our final pre-season game before the season begins.
