5th Team Vs Lichfield 6

Here's my story. The message came through; we have two injured goalies so we want you to play in goal for 5ths and 2s. Ok happy to do that, but then I realised - I haven't played in goal for about two years! So. A trip to the shed to retrieve my kit. The bottom of the garden is a strange and unwelcoming place this time of year, I could feel eyes watching me from the undergrowth. Fearlessly I advanced into the darkness of my shed, grabbed my bag then sprinted out as spiders leapt at me from the gloom. Surprisingly, upon opening the bag I found that not even a single woodlouse had had the lack of self-respect required to set up home in any part of my kit.

I suppose you want to know about the game. Well, after loosening the belt on my abdo guard (must have shrunk since I last wore it) we got on with facing one of the high-flyers in our league, Lichfield, who had come along with a squad of 16. As usual it was a friendly enjoyable game. We welcomed our new recruit Billy Cain who reduced the average age of the side by about 20yrs. Lichfield were clearly the better side, but our defence held true until a rare moment of disorganisation allowed a one on one and the opening goal. Although Lichfield scored another they were largely frustrated despite having some talented youngsters in the side.

I could say more about the game but I'd only bore you. Super effort by all involved!
