Match Report

Old Wulfs welcomed a Cannpck side who's results have been mixed but promising, Wulfs off of the back of a high quality performance at Lichfield the week before started the game gingerly with Cannock dominating possession and spraying passes around the park, Newcomer Sunny had his work cut out in the middle of defence but the back three held firm, Wulfs then began to play, some good moves and chances could not be converted but only due to a superb first half performance from their keeper pulling off a double save from a move which saw Captain Tom Williams shoot from the top of the D to rebound to Gareth Minton on the post attempted to lift the ball over the keeper but the keepers reflexes allowed for him to make an incredible save. some end to end action and saves from both keepers saw the half end 0-0. early in the 2nd half saw end to end hockey but cannock were able to win a short corner and converted. 1-0. The Wulfs then were awakend, from the restart the game was played in Cannocks half and shortly after a beautiful slap pass found in form forward Si Evans with plenty of space to slot the ball past the keeper. 1-1. The Game did not change and Wulfs were piling on the pressure, Adam, Tom and Dan Taylor controlled the midfield while the forwards were causing so many problems for the Cannock defence with their off the ball movement you would've thought they had been training together all week! Adam found himself in a similar postion and once again picked out Si Evans with a great pass, Si lifts the ball ever so slightly over the chasing defenders stick and then proceeds to lift the ball over the keeper! 2-1, Wulfs didn't let off here and continued with the same intensity and pressed Cannock high up the pitch which they struggled to deal with, some back and forth and a couple quality balls from sunny helped relieve pressure from the defence and some great saves from Dan "the wall" Jandu saw Wulfs hold onto their lead, A foot given maybe 4 yards from the edge of the Cannock D was quickly taken by Tom catching Cannock by surprise saw him beat two players, drag the ball the extra yard he needed and proceeded into the D, he then knocked it past the next defender before sweeping a reverse towards goal, a slight deflection from a Cannock foot saw this into the bottom corner and it was game over at 3-1. Cannock amounted a late rally but it was not enough for the Wulfs team who left deservedly with all 3 points. A storming game by Dan Taylor almost saw him receive the man of the match but in reality there was no one else to give it to other than Si Evans, his runs and movement into the channles and inside the fullbacks were crucial in winnig us the game. Wulfs find themselves away at North Staffs in what will see a very interesting game unfold.
