Match Report | A sunny saturday pitted the mighty 2nds against local rivals wolverhampton, a change of shape into a 3-5-2 was discussed before hand and implemented in the game with perfection, and my oh my did it work, wulfs started the game very strongly and this progressed much through the half, half way through the first half Wulfs executed a quality short corner with Gareth Minton firing home into the bottom corner, Wulfs continued to dominate until the half closed with Dan Jandu having hardly seeing the ball for the first time this season made an amazing reflex save not long before the whistle where a crashed ball was deflected but the wall parried it away, the next counter attack was a devastating one as Williams picked the ball up in his own 23, drove 10 yards before unleashing Mellis 2v1 onto the defence with Sam Aldersley, Mellis drew in the keeper and defender before calmly slotting the ball to Sam for maybe the easiest goal of his life, half time 2-1. A quick chat from the skipper, Minton and Thompson we headed out for the 2nd half. the story was much the same but with wolverhampton deciding to press up a little higher than before, this was calmly dealth with by Minton, Jake and Thompson who were solid all game, especially young Jake who has been used as a defender for the last two games and with some very high quality results. Wolverhampton pressed but were wasteful in possession as Adam and Tom began to tire in the middle, out of no where James Fischer has somehow managed to score while sitting down?!?! to everyones confusion. that was 3-0 and game over. Wulfs were pressed by the opposition for maybe 5 minutes but held strong with some good tackling and solid work rate.
The game ended 3-0 much to the delight of myself and the team as we had managed to pick up our first win of the season after starting the season playing all 5 of the top 5! It was hard to pick a man of the match as everyone played well with very high quality performances coming from young Dan Taylor and Joe Mellis but man of the match had to go to Jake Aldersley who has become an undroppable member of the back line and is playing very good hockey. we go again on Saturday against another local opponent Bridgnorth for what will be a very tense game. |
