Match Report

A bump in the road for Old Wulfs this week with a disappointing draw against Finchfield 3s.

Given that they had come through a tough game against their local rivals’ 2nd team to win, a draw against the 3rd eleven was very disappointing.

The match had started positively with two quick goals from the home side, both via Ricky Lally penalty corners. However, everything after this seemed to go downhill.

The forward line wasted several chances to effectively put the game to bed before half time - a theme that was to continue for the rest of the match.

Instead, Finchfield kept plugging away and got themselves a goal before the break to make it 2-1.

In the second half, the tables continued to turn, with Finches growing into the game, taking advantage of an increasingly insipid Old Wulfs performance.

The away side were able to get up the field too easily, and forced several penalty corners. It was by this method that they went on to score two goals - a couple of identical strikes from the top of the circle that put the away side into the lead.

From there, Old Wulfs kept attacking, but were too keen to force the ball forward quickly, leading to passes being intercepted and chances being wasted over and over again.

Despite some bad form, however, it was still clear Old Wulfs were the superior side. All they needed to do was raise their intensity and engage brains. And they just about managed enough of that to score an equaliser - a breakaway goal that was finished by Darryl Ablard.

The game ended three goals each - an unimpressive showing which they’ll surely not allow themselves to repeat.

Goals (Old Wulfs): Ricky Lally (2), Darryl Ablard (1)
