Match Report | Old Wulfrunians travelled to Bloxwich in the hunt for another victory that would extend their streak even further in a very promising run of recent results. A gap in the team meant a call-up and first team debut for teenager Jake Aldersley who slotted in at right-back. It was another confident start to the match for Old Wulfs, who were able to retain most of the possession and transfer the ball from side to side with relative ease. More patient build-up play led to the opening goal. When Will Ashworth peeled off to the right, leaving his marker, he was able to cross the ball which then took a very kind and timely bobble over a defender’s stick, straight to Owen Shave who make no mistake from close range. The half continued to go the visitors’ way although they couldn’t quite find a finish until just before the break. At that point, a penalty corner was won, allowing Ricky Lally to unleash a raised flick towards goal, where Andy Hobley was waiting to skilfully deflect home at chest height. The first period ended with Wulfs two goals to the good, but without really getting out of second gear. That may have led to a touch of complacency, as Bloxwich got themselves a goal a few minutes after the restart via a penalty corner. However, as with last week, Old Wulfs were able to raise the tempo in the second half and pull away from their opponents. This was helped when the penalty corner maestro that is Ricky Lally converted two from the top of the circle in quick succession, all but putting the visitors out of sight. From there, Bloxwich struggled to get any kind of foothold in the game, rarely breaking into Wulfs’ 23 and were continually met by a hardworking defence stepping in front time and again to quell any attacks. Old Wulfs built on there dominance and added three more goals before the final whistle. A neat reverse finish by Archie Harris, a well stuck effort from the top of the circle by Andy Hobley, and a close range follow up effort from Will Ashworth. All in all, another excellent display which sees the winning streak continue further. Goals (Old Wulfs): Andy Hobley (2), Ricky Lally (2), Owen Shave (1), Aruchie Harris (1), Will Ashworth (1) Man of the match: Ben Humpherson |
