Match Report | Old Wulfs faced North Staffs in only their second game of the season after last week’s competitive defeat to Telford. The home side, who employed a tweaked formation, started the game strongly with a well worked overload that was finished from close range by Darryl Ablard. After the opener, Wulfs kept the pressure on, forcing a penalty corner soon after, which Ricky Lally expertly dispatched to make it 2-0. From there, it was one way traffic, with Old Wulfs breaking through the North Staffs lines time and time again. Before the first period was over, there were another two goals. One from another penalty corner, where Andy Hobley deflected in at the back post, and the first goal of the season for sixteen-year-old Joel Wall, who finished off a well worked attack. In the second half, North Staffs looked to push players forward in search of a goal but it was not forthcoming. Old Wulfs were able to slow the game down and repel the away side’s forays forward. More patient hockey meant that Wulfs, comfortable in their lead, could wait for the ideal opportunities to launch the ball up the pitch in pursuit of more goals, and they did so twice more, with an emphatic strike from Will Ashworth and another breakaway move which resulted in Wall bagging his second of the day. An excellent all-round performance from a side that will surely have an eye on promotion this season.
